ABOUT US



As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, MASAM represents over 200 addiction medicine professionals across different categories in Massachusetts.



Mission & Vision



Massachusetts Society of Addiction Medicine (MASAM) provides patients, their families, and physicians with essential resources regarding addiction and substance abuse treatment.


The Mission of the Massachusetts Society of Addiction Medicine is to provide a medium for physicians and medical trainees with special interests in Addiction Medicine to meet and address issues of mutual interest.



Our Purpose





To enable networking with colleagues in Addiction Medicine to provide closer liaison between members and the national activities of ASAM

• To increase public awareness in about the existence and vitality of the physician specialty of Addiction Medicine • to increase public awareness in about problems related to addiction

• To promote professionalism in the delivery of services to patients with problems which result from addiction, and

• To be a physician resource for state and national public policy issues that affect Addiction Medicine services and patients with addiction.



Our Goals





• We are a forum for sharing of ideas between addictionists, especially regarding clinical management strategies and strategies for interfacing with managed care organizations

• A vehicle for increased professionalism and higher quality information, prevention, training, and treatment regarding addiction problems

• An enhancement of knowledge and attitudes among citizens and institutions about the primary nature of the disease of addiction

• A channel for Massachusetts input into national standards of care in Addiction Medicine and a channel for Massachusetts input into health care reform initiatives.

Jessica Gray, MD



PRESIDENT



Dr. Jessica Gray is a dually board certified family medicine physician and addiction specialist in the departments of Medicine at MGH and Pediatrics at Massachusetts General Hospital for Children.

IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT




Dr. James Baker served at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Harvard Medical School as faculty in emergency medicine and is now affiliated with UMass Medical School.

Dr. Heidi Ginter is a board certified Family Physician and Addiction Medicine specialist at Bright View Health.

TREASURER



Dr. Ruth Potee is a board certified Family Physician and Addiction Medicine physician who works in western Massachusetts.

Daniel Liauw, MD, MPH



SECRETARY



Dr. Liauw, (he/him) is a board certified internist and addiction medicine specialist at Massachusetts General Hospital. He practices primary care and addiction medicine at MGH Chelsea Community Health Center, at MGH Bridge Clinic, and on the MGH Addiction Consult Team.

Maria Quinn, MSN, PMHNP-BC



DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION



Maria is the Director of Addiction Treatment and Recovery Support Services at Holyoke Medical Center (HMC). She is a seasoned bilingual, bicultural Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with over 15 years of experience in the field of mental health and substance use disorders.

DIRECTOR OF ADVOCACY



Dr. Joshua St. Louis (he/him) is board certified in Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine and is also an AAHIVM-certified HIV Specialist.

Committees & Task Forces





Advocacy & Legislation Committee



Works closely with government bodies to advocate for policies that benefit our profession and the patients we serve. Members of this committee are involved in grassroots advocacy efforts and help to coordinate MASAM’s legislative strategy. Coordination with advocacy groups.



Education Committee



Dedicated to the continuous professional development of our members. This committee is responsible for planning and organizing educational programs, including webinars, the annual conference, and other educational initiatives that keep our members at the forefront of medical advancements in pain and addiction medicine.



Pain Management Task Force



To provide specific guidance for treatment and focus on the unique needs of patients with pain.
